Laurence C. Pritchard, JD
Biography
Laurence C. Pritchard is an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial
Circuit of Florida who is assigned to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as
Police Legal Advisor.
In 1972 Mr. Pritchard graduated from the Florida State University College of Law
where he was an editor of the Law Review. He began his legal career as a
prosecutor in the County Court Division of the State Attorney’s Office and was
later assigned to the Special Prosecution Division. In 1974, he was assigned by
State Attorney Ed Austin to the position of Police Legal Advisor with the
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. In that capacity, he has served in the
administrations of Sheriff Dale Carson, Sheriff Jim McMillan, Sheriff Nathaniel
Glover, and now Sheriff John Rutherford. His job is to advise the staff and
officers of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the chiefs and officers of other
law enforcement agencies in the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida.
He is a member of the Florida Association of Police Attorneys and the Legal
Officer’s Section of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He has
taught numerous courses at the Northeast Florida Criminal Justice Training
Center and other law enforcement training facilities. In addition to his duties
as legal advisor he was previously responsible for the prosecution of contraband
forfeiture cases on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement
agencies. During his career he has been involved with thousands of Florida
Public Records law requests for Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and State
Attorneys Office Records.
