Dr. Allen Moore, JD, APR

Allen Moore has been with the Orange County (FL) Corrections Department since August 1996 when he established the organization’s first Public Information and Media Relations Office. His background includes more than 30 years in various media and public relations positions.

Moore graduated from Florida State University College of Law receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1986 and earned a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice and a second B.A. in Legal Services from the University of Central Florida (UCF) in 1983. He was on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll during his entire junior and senior years at UCF. Additionally, he is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by the Universal Accreditation Board of the Public Relations Society of America.

Over the years, Allen has served in both radio and television stations as a News Director, Anchor, Commentator, Reporter or Talk Show Host in various media markets including Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis. He also worked part-time in law enforcement in North and Central Florida after obtaining his state law enforcement certificate in 1978 from the St. Augustine Technical Center Regional Police Academy.

A 16-year military veteran, Moore served in Vietnam where he served on active duty with Army and Marine units as a Combat Journalist, Press Escort, and American Forces Radio & Television Broadcaster. During Desert Storm, he worked with Allied Press Information Center during Battle Griffin’ 91 in Norway and later in the Radio-TV Section of the Joint Public Affairs Office at Camp LeJeune, NC.  Staff Sergeant Moore left the Marine Corps Reserve in December 1997.

He is a former Regional Director of the Florida Law Enforcement Public Information Officers Association and was responsible for Brevard, Osceola, Orange, Lake, Flagler, Volusia, and Seminole counties.

He has facilitated tabletop exercises for Orange County Emergency Management (terrorism), Seminole County Emergency Management (Y2K preparation and readiness), and has served as a guest instructor in media relations at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA.
